The Republic of Uzbekistan is a member of the International Labour Organization since 1993 and by now it has joined 13 conventions of the ILO.
Since 2005 the activity of the International Programme of ILO on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) is being carried out in Uzbekistan.

On September 1, 2009 the Uzbek people are going to celebrate the 2200 years of anniversary of the Tashkent city – the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The celebration of Tashkent city was proclaimed by the resolution of General Conference’s 34th session of UNESCO on November 2, 2007 and the special decree of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov’s “On preparing for and celebrating the 2200th anniversary of the Tashkent city”.

The session of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place on July 17 this year in Tashkent, which has summed up the outcomes of social and economic development of the country during the first half of this year and elaborated the additional measures on overcoming the consequences of the global economic crisis, ensuring implementation of the most important priorities of sustainable development of economy in 2009 defined by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the session of the Government on February 13 this year.
